"in the dream he had remembered his last glimpse of his mother, and within a few moments of waking the cluster of small events surrounding it had all come back. It was a memory that he must have deliberately pushed out of his consciousness over many years. He was not certain of the date, nut he could not have been less than ten years old, possibly twelve, when it happened." Book 2 Chapter 7 Page 160
This quote really gets to me. This quote speaks to me for multiple reasons the first reason is the need to push out a memory that isn't wanted. This unpleasant memory has forced him to think differently of his self. for several years he thought he killed his mother and he had troubles dealing with what he believed was a fact. This can be very upsetting for a child. pushing off the truth and not being able to remember the death of your mother in itself should be considered torture. The fact is no person should be forced to believe he was the death of the best person in their life. I could not handling believing i was the death of my mother and i would e incredibly hurt. i don't think i would be able to live with that thought.
"he had worked more than ninety hours in five days. so had everyone else in the ministry" book 2 chapter 9 page 179
This quote shows the length people will go to when their mind is controlled. People will work and work when there is nothing else to do and there is no pleasure to have. humans have a hard time functioning however soon these people will break in my theory because they cant work this much.

"she had no memories of anything before the early Sixties, and the only person she had ever known who talked frequently of the days before the Revolution was a grandfather who has disappeared when she was eight." Book 2 Chapter 3 Page 130
The mood set by the book represents a sad moment in this girls life. A time that brings her back to a happier time before the revolution. back to a simpler time when all she had to worry about was her grandfather. she was only trying to live the life of an average kid however due to the circumstances she was put she was immediately thrown into the environment of the revolution and put into a life or death mode.
" The weather was baking hot. In the Labyrinthine Ministry the windowless, air-conditioned rooms kept their normal temperature, but outside the pavements scorched ones feet and the stench of he tubes at the rush hours was a horror" Book 2 Chapter 5 Page 147
This represents the state the world is in. it is a nod towards hell and showing the state the world is portrayed in as a dystopian future. this is the authors way of showing the reader hell and this dystopia are not too far in comparison. the author also wanted to show the state the atmosphere and showing the greenhouse has effect the worlds climate has gone through. The author is attempting to show the pleasure of staying inside and working like the mindless people the system wants you to be. The system is showing the people of this dystopian future staying inside is the best option.
"He knew that sooner or later he would obey O'Briens's summons" Book 2 Chapter 6 Page 159
This unfortunate event continues to show the power the people have over their own choice. The way people are forced to follow the rule of O'Brien is a complicated process that the people inside the book understand they cannot outrun.

"Under the spreading chestnut tree I sold you and you sold me: There lie they, and here lie we Under the spreading Chestnut tree." book 1, chapter 7, page 77.
I took this quote because I felt maybe there is a strategy to how the telescreen talks and to how the telescrren is setup to show what would most interest the mind and convince the viewer the telescreen is the most important thing and the viewer should focus only on the screen. this is in an attempt to stop the person from letting their mind wander and think bad thought.
"He took his scribbling pad on his knee and pushed back his chair so as to get as far away from the telescreen as possible. to keep your face expressionless was not difficult, and even your breathing could be controlled, with an effort; but you could not control the beating of your heart, and the telescreen was quite delicate enough to pick it up."
This excerpt from the paragraph shows how advanced the technology was thought to be in 1984. The idea of technology so sensitive that your beating heart can be used as a way of knowing how you are feeling when you have already stopped your face from showing expression and your breathing is controlled. I think however if you control your breathing enough your heart rate can be slowed down too. however this takes more concentration than the frap roast at Starbucks. knowing how you feel or whats going on inside your body is so important they invested so much money into a telescreen just to monitor the slight imperfections with the way you feel. This puts me on an edge and makes me wonder if we have this kind of equipment ready to implement in our households. has it already happened just on a smaller scale?
Journal Entry 1: "to the future or to the past, to a time when thought is free, when men different from one another and do not live alone to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone." Part 1, Chapter 2 page 27.
This quote means a lot to the book as of right now. This quotes summarizes what has been going on and is directed towards people who are more free. whether the people will soon be free again in the future or whether the time of being free is far in the past, this letter is towards the free souls. This letter is towards people who wish to keep their thoughts. And although nothing special is in this letter but a simple hello. this calls onto the darkness of what the novel is. this quote summarizes the plot thus far in such a way that only the reader can understand. this quote is set to be in third person in order to have an effect on the reader with a poem feeling to it. This letter also feels like it could come from someone who is more superior or more advanced in a sense to be able to see whats going on and to elaborate on the problems the people are facing.
