This quote really gets to me. This quote speaks to me for multiple reasons the first reason is the need to push out a memory that isn't wanted.  This unpleasant memory has forced him to think differently of his self. for several years he thought he killed his mother and he had troubles dealing with what he believed was a fact. This can be very upsetting for a child. pushing off the truth and not being able to remember the death of your mother in itself should be considered torture. The fact is no person should be forced to believe he was the death of the best person in their life. I could not handling believing i was the death of my mother and i would e incredibly hurt. i don't think i would be able to live with that thought.

This quote shows the length people will go to when their mind is controlled. People will work and work when there is nothing else to do and there is no pleasure to have. humans have a hard time functioning however soon these people will break in my theory because they cant work this much.

"she had no memories of anything before the early Sixties, and the only person she had ever known who talked frequently of the days before the Revolution was a grandfather who has disappeared when she was eight." Book 2 Chapter 3 Page 130

The mood set by the book represents a sad moment in this girls life. A time that brings her back to a happier time before the revolution. back to a simpler time when all she had to worry about was her grandfather. she was only trying to live the life of an average kid however due to the circumstances she was put she was immediately thrown into the environment of the revolution and put into a life or death mode.

" The weather was baking hot. In the Labyrinthine Ministry the windowless, air-conditioned rooms kept their normal temperature, but outside the pavements scorched ones feet and the stench of he tubes at the rush hours was a horror" Book 2 Chapter 5 Page 147

This represents the state the world is in. it is a nod towards hell and showing the state the world is portrayed in as a dystopian future. this is the authors way of showing the reader hell and this dystopia are not too far in comparison. the author also wanted to show the state the atmosphere and showing the greenhouse has effect the worlds climate has gone through. The author is attempting to show the pleasure of staying inside and working like the mindless people the system wants you to be. The system is showing the people of this dystopian future staying inside is the best option.

"He knew that sooner or later he would obey O'Briens's summons" Book 2 Chapter 6 Page 159

This unfortunate event continues to show the power the people have over their own choice. The way people are forced to follow the rule of O'Brien is a complicated process that the people inside the book understand they cannot outrun.
